Manila, Philippines-Coinciding with the last State of the Nation (SONA) of President Benigno S. Aquino III and the 101st Anniversary of Iglesia ni Cristo is the first birthday of 100th Millionth Pinoys symbolic babies. These babies were recognized by the Commission on Population on July 27, 2014 when the population of Filipinos was estimated to have reached the 100 millionth mark.
In Metro Manila, the first birthday of these babies were celebrated by the Commission on Population (POPCOM-NCR), together with the Department of Health (DOH), National Nutrition Council (NNC) and the Philippine Health Insurance, Inc. (PhilHealth), in coordination with the concerned Local Government Units.
The symbolic 100th Millionth Babies in Metro Manila includes Chonalyn Sentino from Manila, Geril Lee Balajadia from Muntinlupa City and Ahlian Garriezayn Presto from Caloocan City.
POPCOM NCR Regional Director Lolito Tacardon said that the birth of the babies symbolizes the challenges for the government and institutions to ensure the well-being of every Filipino living today and in the future.
“Just what President Aquino enumerated in his accomplishments during his administration, he said that Filipinos falling ill pose a serious challenge to the fulfillment of their dreams. And so, the government embarked into implementation of programs that will provide universal health care for all Filipinos. These symbolic 100thmillionth babies could reflect how well these accomplishments have affected the lives of the Filipinos,” Tacardon added.

The Commission on Population - National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) partners with Quezon City government, various National Government Agencies and Non-Government Organizations in providing health information and services to couples, men, women and youth through a Family Health Fair to be held on August 28 at the NGC Covered Court, Brgy. Commonwealth, Quezon City.
Some 500 constituents from Brgy. Commonwealth, Payatas and Batasan are expected to avail the different health services and information to be provided during the Family Health Fair.
POPCOM-NCR Regional Director Lolito R. Tacardon said the event aims to promote responsible parenthood and family development especially among urban poor families. It showcases different government health programs that will contribute to the attainment of the country’s commitment to the health related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
This event will be a one-stop shop of health services and information which include sessions on responsible parenting, promotion of men’s involvement in maternal and child health, lectures on nutrition, family planning counseling, TeenChat interactive session to prevent teenage pregnancy, Philhealth registration and updating, dental service, acetic wash and breast examination among women.
The Center for Health Solutions, Inc.(CHSI), Luzon Health, PETPAFI, DKT, Department of Health, Philhealth, National Nutrition Council (NNC), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Quezon City Health Department will converge in one venue to reach the priority beneficiaries of government’s health programs, services and information. ### (POPCOM-NCR, August 26, 2015)
