POPCOM-NCR builds KATROPA Advocates among Government Employees
The Commission on Population-National Capital Region (POPCOM-NCR), as part of its efforts in strengthening partnership with national government agencies in the region, recently conducted a three-day KATROPA training for male employees and members/officers of the organized MOVE (Men Opposed to Violence Against Women Everywhere) from selected male dominated regional agencies which was held at the Icon Hotel in Quezon City.
KATROPA (Kalalakihang Tapat sa Responsibilidad at Obligasyon sa Pamilya) is an initiative of the Commission on Population that aims to promote male involvement in maternal and child health as well as responsible parenting towards elimination of violence against women and children.
POPCOM Deputy Executive Director and Acting Regional Director Lolito R. Tacardon said this activity hopes to build more advocates in government offices who shall promote responsible parenting and family planning in the workplace, ensuring men’s involvement through application and sharing of key messages learned from the training.
During this training, participants were provided with information and inputs about maternal, neonatal,
and child health and nutrition (MNCHN), improving husband-wife relationship, caring for the family, responsible parenting, family planning and related laws protecting women, children and family.
An action planning session was also held wherein each agency identified possible activities where promotion of KATROPA may be integrated in their respective workplace.
The participants during this training included representatives from Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Health (DOH), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and Department of Justice (DOJ). ###
