POPCOM-NCR SUPPORTS CALOOCAN FIRST MNCHN SDN SUMMIT

The Commission on Population-National Capital Region (POPCOM-NCR) supported the City Government of Caloocan through its Health Department in the conduct of Maternal, Newborn and Child Health and Nutrition Service Delivery Network (MNCHN SDN) Summit held on January 10, 2017 at Buena Park Clubhouse, Caloocan City.

Highlighting this event was the ceremonial signing of Family Planning (FP)/MNCHN Service Providers’ Agreement (SPA) by health care service providers from 53 private and public maternity/lying-in and birthing clinics, 16 private and public hospitals, together with the City Health Officer Maybelle P. Sison and Department of Health-NCRO as represented by the Chief of the Field Operations Division Dr. Ruben Siapno and attested by POPCOM Deputy Executive Director and Acting Regional Director Lolito Tacardon.  Representatives from Luzon Health and Save the Children were also present to witness the event.  

The ceremonial signing of the FP/MNCHN SPA marked the strengthening of the partnership of health care service providers and stakeholders working for RPFP and MNCHN program in Caloocan City to improve the current maternal and child health status and service provision in the area by providing appropriate and ethical clinical and non-clinical standards and a systematic referral mechanism.

"This is another significant milestone for Caloocan MNCHN and proudly, another public and private partnership at work.  The signing of the SPA is beneficial to all mothers, adolescents and members of the SDN.  MNCHN SDN, if not to end, will lessen infant mortality,” said Dr. Maybelle P. Sison, Caloocan City Health Officer.

The Caloocan Health Department is working with partners in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal: 3 Ensuring Good and Well Being by 2030 and one of the focus is the reduction of maternal, neonatal, and child mortality. Topics discussed during the summit included the city ordinances on MNCHN,HIV Referral System, and the standard requirements for Philhealth claims for Maternity Care and Natural Spontaneous Delivery Packages.

POPCOM-NCR Assistant Regional Director-Designate, Ms. Joyce DP. Hilvano in her message expressed the commitment of POPCOM to continuously provide technical support and assistance to Caloocan Health Department in the promotion of activities related to Responsible Parenting and Family Planning (RP-FP), Adolescent Health and Youth Development (AHYD) and Population and Development Integration (POPDEV) particularly on the aspects of demand generation and information-education.

Also present to witness the event were Caloocan City 1st District Councilor and Councilor for Health, Hon. Aurora A. Henson, Jr. and Philhealth Insurance Corporation-North Caloocan Head Mr. Jerico C. Pascual.#### (POPCOM-NCR, January 16, 2017)
