The Commission on Population-National Capital Region (POPCOM-NCR) in coordination with POPCOM Wellness Clinic, Mandaluyong City Health Office, Addition Hills Integrated School (AHIS) and AHIS Parent-Teachers Association (PTA), and Friendly Care Clinic held the first RPRH Caravan in Schools on Saturday, October 22, 2016.
The RPRH Caravan was able to provide to around 100 parents with information on effective parenting and various family planning methods through Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning (RP-FP) session and on the importance of male involvement in maternal and child health care through Kalalakihang Tapat sa Responsibilidad at Obligasyon Sa Pamilya (KATROPA) session.
Likewise, some 200 students of AHIS were oriented on various topics on adolescent health and responsible sexuality through the conduct of Teen Chat interactive sessions facilitated by POPCOM-NCR trained TeenChat facilitators.
Also part of the event was the provision of medical/health services for the participants, including babies and children, and family planning counselling and services to women of reproductive age with unmet need for modern family planning.
“More interventions should be done to reach out to many men and women who are in need of reproductive health and family planning services”, said Mr. Lolito R. Tacardon, Regional Director of PopCom-NCR.
The conduct of this caravan was in support of President Rodrigo Duterte’s marching order for the full implementation of the RP-RH Law and also of DOH Secretary Dr. Paulyn Jean B. Rosell-Ubial’s call for reaching the zero unmet need among women of reproductive age (WRA).
PopCom-NCR will continue to bring the RPRH caravan to more public schools in Metro Manila. ### (October 23, 2016)
